Engine Oils

Engine oil is a critical operational component within the vehicle’s powertrain, performing several essential functions: reducing friction and wear between moving parts, cooling high-temperature areas, cleaning and removing deposits, and sealing between pistons and cylinder walls. It ensures stable engine performance, even under demanding conditions and continuous load.
With the advancement of engine technology and the transition to a new generation of compact, efficient, and low-emission engines, precise oil selection according to manufacturer specifications has become essential. Stricter emission regulations (Euro 6 and above) have driven the development of advanced low-viscosity oils that deliver superior protection while meeting environmental standards.
These oils incorporate advanced additive packages, based on complex production technologies, which enhance durability, thermal stability, and cleaning performance. As a result, modern engine oils are more sophisticated and precise than ever—while remaining essential for engine reliability and long-term protection.

Engine Oil Categories

• Mineral oils – petroleum-based, offering basic performance characteristics; now rarely used in modern vehicles
• Semi-synthetic and fully synthetic oils – produced through advanced refining processes, offering improved durability and resistance to heat and extended service intervals
• Hydrocracked synthetic oils – high-performance oils designed for modern engines, including turbocharged and direct injection systems, and compliant with advanced emission standards; these are the most commonly used oils in today’s vehicles

Industry standards:

• API – American Petroleum Institute
• ACEA – European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association
• OEM Approvals – manufacturer-specific approvals such as VW, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, GM, PSA, and others
Selecting the right engine oil requires adherence to manufacturer specifications, correct viscosity grade, applicable standards, and real-world usage conditions (urban driving, heavy load, or off-road use).
